The Geo. A. Rheman Co., Inc. was based in Charleston, SC. It was started in 1934 as the house carrier for Exxon and was the first trucking company in South Carolina to transport a bulk load of gasoline. Then in 1959 Southern Bulk Haulers, Inc. was started as a joint venture between The Geo. A. Rheman Co., Inc. and Matlack Trucking Company to transport cement in bulk for Giant Cement Company. They were the first trucking companies in South Carolina to transport a bulk load of cement. Calhoun Lemon, owner of The Geo. A. Rheman Co. Inc., later purchased Matlack’s share in Southern Bulk Haulers, Inc. Southern Tank Transport, Inc. was started in 1994 as the house carrier for Blue Circle Cement, Inc. Then in July of 2000, Southern Tank Transport, Inc. begin acting as the operating company for The Geo. A. Rheman Co. Inc. and Southern Bulk Haulers, Inc. Our company is run by President Dan Horton, and his management team. All of our operating decisions are made at the corporate headquarters in Holly Hill, SC. Southern Tank Transport, Inc. employs 350 people and has a combined fleet of 270 tractors located in the following states:
